INTRODUCTION

FAPI is an organization of almost 500 members who are Indian American physicians in Greater Tampa Bay area. This is a multispecialty association comprising of Internists, Gastroenterologists, Cardiologists, Ob-Gyn, Pediatricians, Neurologists, Surgeons, Oncologists, Radiologists, Endocrinologists, Pulmonologists & Psychiatrists and all other medical &/or surgical specialties.

They come from all surrounding counties in vicinity of Tampa Bay including Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, Hernando, Polk, Sarasota & Citrus. FAPI conducts Independent Medical Educational activities for its members 3-4 times every year.

Please examine FAPI website pages to familiarize with our executive officer and with our association and to get most up-dated information of recent research & remedies and this way FAPI invites other physicians also to benefit from these superb opportunities so as to enhance their knowledge in providing highest quality care to their patients.

Speakers and topics are decided upon diligent analysis of seminar evaluation feedback information from attendees in these educational events in coordination with Bayfront Medical Center providing AMA accredited Category 1 hours for CME purposes. These scientific sessions are of highest quality stimulating physicians intellect into widening scope of inquiry and enhancing skills of patient care.

Charitable Activities − FAPI conducts Thanksgiving feast distributing dinners to needy families in different parts of West Central Florida and then also distributes X-mas toys to children in families where resources are limited. Also 300 plus families benefit every year form these charitable contributions, a tradition which has been annually, undaunted, carried out since inception of FAPI 22 years ago in 1987. Similarly, FAPI sent funding to different community projects such as American Heart Association, Project Hope, The Spring of Tampa Bay, NAMI, Boys & Girls Clubs, Sheriff´s Youth Ranch etc. and also assistance to victims of hurricanes or similar natural disasters, helping rehabilitate and recover from their tragedies.

FAPI values highest educational achievements, discipline, family cohesiveness, good citizenship, social & cultural growth for its members, their families, networking with other ethnic & professional groups, inviting community leaders, role models and dignitaries to our functions from time to time.

How to become member /advertiser of FAPI ?
Newcomers, MSRF ( Medical Students, Residents & Fellows ) are encouraged to be a part of FAPI and are invited to become members and contribute to the developing, growing and thriving culture of this beautiful association which is listed as tax exempt, not-for-profit organization and is also an active member of the wider national organization of Indian American Physicians known as AAPI.

History of FAPI
The name FAPI (Florida Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) was changed from AAPSA (American Association of Physicians from South Asia) in May 2004 for easier identification and representation of physicians of Indian origin in the Tampa Bay area and surrounding counties.

AAPSA was founded in 1987 by a group of physicians of Indian origin that included Shashi Cori, Vijaynagar Raghavendra, and Hussain Saba, among others. Dr. Vijaynagar was elected as the first President. The initial membership of a handful of doctors has swelled to approximately 450 as of November 2004.
